Risk Management Trainee －GOSC

About GOSC

Cargill is one of the major suppliers and processors of grains and oilseeds in China, providing quality grains, oilseeds and fats products from worldwide origins. Cargill currently operates 4 oilseeds crush plants in China, three in Guangdong Province and one in Jiangsu Province.

Position Objective:

This position has been created to support commercial business and talent pipeline in China.

Principal Accountabilities:

 SND Management -25%
• Gather, analyze and input key information concerning the different agricultural products into the local Chinese S&D (supply and demand balance sheet);
• Manage and keep the local S&D up to date. Discuss locally and with the different trading desks in Geneva;
• Make weekly S&D changes report;
• Connect with the different merchants on feed demand, and analyze and report the impacts in the market.

Price Collection Nationwide -15%
• Monitor the different agricultural products’ prices in key locations, including Northeast origination areas, Dalian, Shandong, YRB, Fujian and Guangdong;
• Maintain & analyze daily cash prices and correlate them with DCE futures prices and world prices;
• Report price changes in the various regions, more specifically on how price changes affect import and export economics.

Positions and Trading -35%
Assist the Trading Manager on covering different areas of risk management for the GOSC GCK including but not limited to:
• Hedging cash purchases;
• Trading futures in DCE and CBOT;
• Arbitrating between cash and futures, including delivery on the exchange;
• Report Open Interest/Trade Volume/carry structures and explore trading opportunities;
• Keep trading position spread sheet updated (Long & Short);
• Give the necessary guidance and learn from the different locations (offices or plants);
• Keep WTU and Minneapolis fully informed on major developments in the DCE, cash markets and general environment in China;
• Write daily recaps on the different commodities traded;
• Write weekly recaps for the Chinese Risk Meeting on the different commodities traded.

Import/Export business -25%
• Daily communication with WTU and customers regarding market developments;
• Conduct agency business for WTU for the different agricultural products;
• Work together with trade execution/accounting/treasury/TSF functions to manage market and customer risk. Keep WTU on the loop.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor and above
• Up to 2 years working experience in MNCs

• University undergraduates who have the passion to learn & grow with the organization through on job practice;
• Strong analytical skills and commercial sense;
• Proven numerical agility;
• Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills;
• Willing to step forward with new ideas and challenge status quo;
• Acting with conviction and integrity;
• Result oriented and accountable;
• Fluent in both Mandarin and English, written and verbal.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge about futures and cash trading;
• Knowledge about tanker and dry bulk freight markets;
• Knowledge about agricultural markets.

Position Objective:
Cargill Metals Supply Chain (CMSC) is looking to hire Commercial Management Trainees specializing in trading and merchandising for their China locations. Purpose of the traineeship is to produce excellent commercial professionals who will have the opportunity to build foundational trading knowledge within the business unit. The training follows a rotational programme across different metals product lines, whilst providing exposure to and involvement with the operational aspects of a dynamic trading organization. This is a rare opportunity to obtain such broad and deep professional training in a dynamic and fast changing business, and the career prospects are numerous and exciting.

 
Principal Accountabilities:

• Assist to drive customer solutions to develop CMSC as a customer of choice and develop a long term strategy centered on creating sustainable trading business model.
• Develop market knowledge through interaction with steel mills, traders, brokers and other market participants.
• Develop working knowledge of economic Supply/Demand research and analysis. Trade-flow analysis, working closely with CMSC Analytics team.
• Communicating and potential to work with internal and external customers on a daily basis, both written and verbal.
• Develop physical knowledge of commodity (i.e. steel) as well as shipping, logistics, quality, contract terms and operations.
• Ensure execution of trades from conception to completion is done within Cargill processes, guidelines and guiding principles.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor/Master’s degree with discipline in Business, Finance or Engineering
• Prior internship experience with exposure to physical trading will be an advantage
• Demonstrated self-starter, entrepreneurial and innovative behaviors, strong business acumen
• Significant quantitative and analytical facility and commercially-minded
• Ability to contribute and execute as part of a team and individually
• Strong communication skills - written, oral, persuasion
• Willing to rotate between different China locations – Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangdong
